Zen Peacemakers
Vision
We envision an enlightened society where suffering is transformed into wisdom and compassion and all beings live in harmony and are relieved of the afflictions of hunger, war and disease. Spirituality and service are tools we use to help all beings find freedom regardless of race, religion, ability, gender or nationality.
Mission
We seek to bear witness to the joy and suffering of the universe, and to realize and actualize the oneness and interdependence of life through study, practice and action for personal and social transformation. We seek to connect and empower peacemakers throughout the world. We are committed to nonviolence, inclusivity, free expression and experimentation.

Plum Village - Thich Nhat Hanh
The Most Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh (Thây), our spiritual teacher, founded the Unified Buddhist Church (Eglise Bouddhique Unifieé) in France in 1969, during the Vietnam war. Thich Nhat Hanh is a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, a poet, a scholar, and a peace activist. His life long efforts to generate peace and reconciliation moved Martin Luther King, Jr. to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967. He founded the Van Hanh Buddhist University in Saigon and the School for Youths of Social Services in Vietnam. When not travelling the world to teach “The Art of Mindful Living”, he teaches, writes, and gardens in Plum Village, France, a Buddhist monastery for monks and nuns and a mindfulness practice center for lay people.

Sharon Salzberg
One of America’s leading spiritual teachers and authors, Sharon Salzberg is cofounder of the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Barre, Massachusetts. She has played a crucial role in bringing Asian meditation practices to the West. Brooklyn Yoga School
BYS is a school for yogic living in the modern world offering classes for beginners to advanced students rooted in the ancient tradition of Classical Yoga.

What is Yoga by Donation? Yoga and the teachings of liberation are priceless. They have been passed down from teacher to student for thousands of years without charge. In this spirit, all of the classes at the Brooklyn Yoga School are offered solely by donation. It is left to each student to decide what to give in exchange for class. This helps to keep the classes affordable for students of varying financial situations. It is also a practice in itself of re-evaluating our relationship to the economic system: with no mandatory fee it is at the students discretion to assign value to the programs and take it on themselves to decide what is "their money's worth".

Sadie Nardini
The founder of Core Strength Vinyasa Yoga and a dynamic self-empowerment speaker Sadie helps real people transform real-world challenges. Sadie infuses her teachings with a hip, yet down-to-earth mix of Eastern and Western techniques, pop culture and personal testimonials. Yoga Journal calls her a “star instructor” for her ability to make the concepts of body/mind transformation accessible.

As a teen, Sadie suffered from an un-definitively diagnosed central nervous system illness that rendered her nearly paralyzed for over 2 years. She fought back for the next 10, using yoga, diet and a focused mind to conquer a disease that doctors told her likely wasn't possible to heal from.
